What Stump Grinding Costs in Tennessee
Real Middle Tennessee numbers from a crew that grinds here every week — not national-average guesses. Prices updated September 2026.
How our pricing works
Two numbers cover it: a $200 service minimum, and an average of $6 per inch of grinding diameter. Diameter is measured from root flare to root flare at the widest part of the stump — not just the flat top.
| Stump Size (root flare to root flare) | Estimate |
|---|---|
| Up to ~33" across | $200 minimum |
| 40" across | ~$240 |
| 50" across | ~$300 |
| 60" across | ~$360 |
Measure at the widest part of the stump, from root flare to root flare. Stump size, how long ago it was cut, tree type, and access can all move the price up or down — your exact quote comes from a quick photo. Prices updated September 2026.
What moves the price
$6 per inch is the average, not a fixed rate. Four things can move a quote up or down:
- Stump size. The biggest driver — bigger stumps mean more grinding time.
- When it was cut down. How long the stump has been in the ground changes how it grinds.
- Tree type. Species grind differently — a soft pine and a dense oak are not the same job.
- Access. Our grinder fits through standard gates, but tight, sloped, or obstructed access adds time.
Cleanup is the other variable: on our basic grind-and-go package the grindings are raked into a mound over the hole at no charge, and full cleanup is available for an additional price. Multiple stumps? One visit, one $200 minimum — so batching several stumps into one trip is the cheapest way to clear them all.
How to get an exact quote
Fastest way: text a photo of your stump to (615) 212-9662 with your city. Stand back far enough that we can see the whole stump, its root flare, and what's around it. Most photo quotes go out the same day, and the quoted price is the price — confirmed before we start, no surprises after.
